What is Super Mario Crossover 2?
Super Mario Crossover 2 was developed by Jay Pavlina and is a recreation of the original game that includes all different types of characters from other famous titles from the NES, SNES and the Gameboy console.
As a player of this wonderful and unique game you can choose to play as Samus, Linbk, Mega Man, Simon Belmont, Ryu, Bill Rizer, the tank from Blaster Master and of course Mario or Luigi.
You will find that each one of the different characters come equipped with their own set of special abilities. The abilities of each character stay true to what they are in their own game, for example, Mega Man still has the ability to slide and fire his cannon from his arm.
Although each of the characters has different abilities they still all must adhere to the rules of the Mario universe. The animals like the turtles and the owls are still bad and need to be destroyed. The flowers and the mushrooms in the game should still be collected and the “powering up” from these is different and unique to each of the characters.
Depending on the character that you choose to play, as they power up it will be an accurate power up to the characters original game. An example of this would be if you were playing as the character Samus you would start with a short range beam but if you were to get a mushroom that beam will now be able to shoot much further.
One more benefit of these other characters is that their attacks will destroy blocks much faster than what it takes Mario to do at one time.
Super Mario Crossover 2 was developed with care and has some updates over the first Super Mario Crossover. The game was made so that all the unique characters and abilities fit well into the Mario environment.
Each character can stomp any of the bad turtles or owls but due to the difference in size of some of the characters they may need to position themselves in another way in order to attack with their weapon. This really adds some flare to the game and makes it even more fun to play.
What sets this Game Apart From Others?
Most games that have tried to follow this type of setup in the past have been put together very poorly, this is not the case with Super Mario Crossover 2. This game brings all types of characters into Mario’s world and does a fantastic job of blending them in correctly. The detail that is payed to each character really shows and pays off as you progress through the game.
This entire game really brings a hefty dose of the Nintendo nostalgia to your desktop and the best part may be that its free to play in a flash enabled browser. As far as bringing any new things to the Mario World, it does not. However the unique blend of the many fantastic characters really makes this game stand out and will be one that you will enjoy playing.
